Laser Hair Removal: Pre-Care & Post-Care Guide
Pre-Treatment Care (Before Your Appointment)
• Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, tweeze, or thread for at least 3–4 weeks prior, as the hair follicle must be present for the laser to work effectively.
• Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including tanning beds and self-tanners) for at least 1–2 weeks before treatment.
• Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotions, oils, deodorant, or perfume in the treatment area.
• Avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinol, AHAs, BHAs, or exfoliating products on the treatment area 3–5 days before treatment.
• Inform your provider if you are taking medications that increase photosensitivity (certain antibiotics, Accutane, etc.).
• Avoid chemical peels, waxing, or aggressive exfoliation on the area for at least 1 week before treatment.
Post-Treatment Care (After Your Appointment)
Proper aftercare helps protect your skin and maximize your results:
• Mild redness or sensitivity is normal and usually subsides within a few hours.
• Apply cool compresses or aloe vera to soothe the treated area if needed.
• Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense workouts for 24–48 hours.
• Avoid direct sun exposure and always apply SPF 30 or higher on treated areas.
• Do not pick, wax, or tweeze the treated hairs. Hair shedding typically occurs within 1–3 weeks after treatment.
• Avoid exfoliating products, retinol, or strong skincare ingredients for 3–5 days after treatment.
• Keep the area clean and moisturized.
